Create a gift-wrapping workstation—using the space in your shed or garage might work nicely.

We love the Christmas season and we’re sure you do, too. It’s filled with friends, family, food, festivities . . . and presents.

For most people, choosing and shopping for presents is an annual challenge, but that’s only half of the battle. The other half starts once you’re home. We all know that gifts don’t wrap themselves. Finding the time, motivation, and energy to gift-wrap can be overwhelming.

Whether it’s you or someone else in your household who tackles this task, here are four helpful and time-saving tips that will make gift wrapping efforts a breeze.

Be aware: if you’re doing this for someone else, it may win you some bonus points.

1. Gather gift wrapping essentials.

These include wrapping paper, tape, scissors, gift tags, a small assortment of gift bags, tissue paper, and a variety of fine-tip Sharpie markers.

2. Find a place to create a gift wrapping workstation.

This may seem over-the-top, but it will ensure efficiency. If you don’t have a dedicated craft or supply room in your home, a garage or shed will work perfectly. There you will find minimal foot traffic and maximum privacy.

Tip: Have you winterized your shed or garage yet? If not, this is a great time to do it!

3. As gifts are bought, hide them near the workstation.

If they’re nearby, they won’t have to hauled from one location to another. Plus there will be less chance of them being seen by others.

4. Organize your workstation.

Turn on your space heater—and classic Christmas tunes if you like—then get organizing. Here are some hints that may help.

  • Keep your gift wrapping essentials together in one place like a box or a shower caddy.
  • Place an empty toilet paper roll over the gift wrap. It will keep it from unraveling.
  • There’s no shame in using gift bags. If the gift is too difficult to wrap, bag it!

Follow these gift-wrapping station tips, and you (or your special someone) may actually enjoy this less-glamorous detail of the holiday.

Want to take it a step further? Create a an entire winter workshop! It may be cold outside, but your shed or garage can be transformed into a wonderland of fun that will last all season long.
